Before his tenure expires, President Akufo-Addo has been urged to take firm action against illicit mining and enact reforms in the industry by Nana Boadi Ampomenim Abodade III, the Kontinhene of Asuom.
During an interview with Channel One News, Nana Abodade III emphasized her extreme dissatisfaction with the damage illicit mining is causing to the environment, especially in the Asuom neighborhood.
He drew attention to the general disdain for laws, charging certain people with abusing prospecting permits and working without contracts, which allowed local areas to be destroyed uncontrolled.
Nana Abodade III explicitly cited AC Zenon as a business that has reportedly been connected to Amina Tahiru and Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Abu Jinapor. The company has reportedly refused to stop activities and return areas that have been devastated.
