SEND Ghana, a leading national non-governmental organisation, is urging the Ghanaian government to intensify its efforts in providing quality education for all children in the country.
In a statement released, the organisation pointed out the need to bridge the educational gap between rural and urban communities in Ghana, and underscored the significance of access to quality education for the nation's socio-economic development. The lack of educational infrastructure and materials, insufficient teaching personnel and inadequacy in supervision have had dire consequences on the delivery of education services, especially in rural communities, said George Osei-Bimpeh, Country Director of SEND Ghana. Osei-Bimpeh called for more government intervention in areas like teacher training, infrastructure provision, funding and effective supervision. SEND Ghana's call to action follows recent research showing significant disparities in education in the country. The study found that many children, particularly those in rural communities, are deprived of their right to education. This inequity, the organisation argues, will affect the future development and growth of the nation. The organisation is thus appealing to the government to provide additional funding and take a more active role in improving and maintaining educational infrastructure, while also making teaching more appealing as a profession. Every child deserves quality education. Our children must be prepared for the world of work and it’s the duty of us all, including the government, to provide the necessary enabling environment for that to happen, Osei-Bimpeh said. SEND Ghana is committed to advocating for equal rights and opportunities for Ghanaians. They believe that education is the key to reducing poverty and creating more opportunities for young people to secure better futures.SEND Ghana urges govt to intensify support for quality education for all Ghanaian children
