Mahama couldn't help but shake his head as he read through the news article about the abandoned Saglemi housing project. He had seen the potential in the project, had put in time and effort to ensure it came to fruition during his tenure as president, and now it had been left to waste away.
He could hear the smug satisfaction of the current government as they pointed fingers at his administration, blaming them for the incomplete project. It was like watching a child cover up their own mess by pointing to the mess their sibling made weeks ago.
But Mahama wasn't one to back down. He knew the truth and he was going to speak it.
He stepped up to the podium and cleared his throat. The crowd before him was waiting for his response to the government's criticism of his administration's handling of the Saglemi project.
"It's disheartening to see this administration play the blame game instead of taking responsibility for their own inaction," Mahama began. "This is not a political issue. This is an issue of human welfare."
He pointed out that the housing project could have been completed by now and could have given hundreds of Ghanaians a chance at owning their own homes. "Instead, this government chooses to leave the project in limbo, leaving hundreds of families to suffer."
Mahama had seen first-hand the struggles that many Ghanaians faced with affordable housing. That was why he had initiated the Saglemi project in the first place.
"We need to put our people first. We need to take responsibility for our actions and work towards a better future for all Ghanaians," Mahama declared. "It's time for this government to step up and take action towards the completion of this project, and many others like it, so that we can all enjoy the fruits of progress."
As he finished his speech, Mahama knew that it wasn't just about pointing fingers or scoring political points. It was about making sure that the people of Ghana were taken care of and given a fair chance to prosper. He could only hope that the current administration would hear his words and act accordingly.
