Prostate cancer – a silent killer that claims the lives of too many men in Ghana. The alarming statistic of 234 men succumbing to this deadly disease between 2013 and 2022 has sent shockwaves across the country.
The question that begs an answer is, how many more men will have to die before we take action? Prostate cancer may not receive as much attention as other types of cancers, but it is equally deadly. The sad reality is that it often goes undetected until it’s too late.
The good news is that prostate cancer can be prevented, and early detection can significantly increase the chances of survival. The bad news is that there is a lack of awareness about this disease and a shortage of resources to tackle it.
It is time to take prostate cancer seriously. Men, it is crucial to get checked regularly. We need to start conversations about this disease, raise awareness and educate people on prevention, detection, and treatment.
Ghana’s healthcare system also needs to prioritize prostate cancer by increasing resources, research and ensuring that treatment is available to everyone.
We cannot afford to lose any more lives to this disease. Let us join hands and fight prostate cancer together. Together, we can ensure that every man in Ghana has the knowledge and resources to protect themselves from this silent killer.
